What We Do – Women’s Economic Empowerment
Women’s meager incomes continue to be vital to the survivals of large number of households in Somalia. Yet, they lack access to credit, training and any other economic opportunities that can lift them out of poverty. Thus, investing in women’s economic empowerment is the right path towards obtaining inclusive economic growth and addressing the root causes of poverty. SWSC supports women economic empowerment as a means achieving gender equality. Currently, we working with 12 Village Loans& Associations (VSLA) across the 5 districts of Kismayo (Alanley, Gulwade, Shaqalaha, Fanole & Farjano. Each of the 12 VSLA groups comprises 25 women (total 300) running small businesses in their respective districts. The VSLA groups are self-selected and self-governed. SWSC provides technical support to the groups.
